I have been a writer for The Political Review since 2021. It has been one of the best experiences of my education experience, and I encourage all to apply, read, and engage with The Political Review. Since this will be my last article, I thought about what I would want my final message to be for my few (if any) readers. Although many lessons and rants came to mind, one stood out from them all: read Plato’s Republic. I consider it to be one the greatest political, ethical, and literary works of all time. Most do not feel this way, but I feel it my duty to at least entice you to read the Republic.

Christopher Nolan is one of the greatest movie directors of all time. Although it has garnered mixed reactions, I love Nolan’s movie Tenet. I’ll admit, Tenet challenges everyone’s cognitive ability via visual chaos. But, let me hop onto my crumbling soapbox for a quick defense of this chaotic Christopher Nolan film. Tenet explores the implications of humanity's obsession with overpowering nature. Overpowering nature tends to improve our own well-being, but occasionally this is not the case (think atomic bomb). Paradoxically, those who are in a position to produce something that will overpower nature and are aware of the potentially negative consequences will move forward with creating that product.

Early this year, I met with a senator from the French government. During a Q&A, someone asked him about the increasing number of immigrants from the Middle East and Africa. The senator responded, “When you walk down the streets of France, it is not in France. It’s the Middle East.” In other words, the senator worries immigrant’s culture appears to increasingly replace and remove France’s culture. Roughly defined, “culture” is the material, intellectual, and artistic products of a national identity, and that national identity’s values, vision, and etiquette [1].
