The most devastating conflict in American history, the Civil War, was precipitated by issues of morality and equality arising from the aftermath of the American Revolution. It demonstrated that a united nation needs a united understanding of humanity. The Civil War occurred decades after the American Revolution; likewise, the current civil contention was bred largely by the Sexual Revolution of the mid-twentieth century. The dilemma of our modern political strife is that we cannot have a united nation without a national understanding of morality.
